Discount
Laptop Shopping Guide by Dave Westin
It
can be very overwhelming to try and sort through all of the different
laptops to find the best deal. There are some great steps that you
can take to minimize shopping time and still get a discount laptop.
Many companies push deals on different computers that can look good.
However, you can't be sucked in by the price alone. The fisrt step
to getting the right laptop is asess your needs thoroughly. Make
a list of everything that you will actually be using the laptop
for. The list shouls break down using three basic categories that
are universal for laptop use. The first category is the battery
range. This is important because today's mobile laptops are built
around how mobile they actually are. Intel makes specific processors
that can extend the battery life of your laptop. If the mobility
is not important, you can get a faster processor that is not designed
to save power. There are also other options to extend battery life
like extra batteries and power adapters to plug into various power
sources. The next category is all about the connectivity of the
laptop. Will you need to be able to wirelessly connect to the internet?
Many people simply use their laptops at desks where internet ports
are available. Make sure not to waste money on a wireless network
card unless you need it. There are also other various options like
Bluetooth. This lets you wirelessly connect to various components
like cell phones and PDAs. This is still a newer option and can
be expensive. The third category is very important because it will
have the largest effect on the overall price of a laptop. All of
the little options that sound enticing are where computer companies
really make the money. Wisely do some research and see if there
are any new items that you will really utilize. DVD burners and
video cards are some of the most unused options because they sound
good but are pratical for day to day use. Have a good idea of what
you really want and be firm. New gizmos can easily double the price
of a basic computer that is probably sufficient.
